This work evaluates the hypoxia impact in sport flying. In 2010 it was presented at University of Beira Interior a MSc thesis in aeronautical engineering which the primary objective was to evaluate peripheral percentage of oxygen in blood of glider and ultra light pilots. The results were very satisfactory showing a sharp decay of this percentage as altitude increased, but the probing method used was uncomfortable and not ergonomic making it unusable for future experiments.

Thus in this work we focus on gathering information from pilot’s cerebral oximetry during flights in non-pressurized aircraft by measurements made directly on each frontal lobe region. In addition to the experimental data, and to better understand the impact of hypoxia in general aviation, this work also presents medical factors and symptoms of hypoxia as well as how the most important worldwide legislation faces it. This work ends with some guidelines for future developments.
